Its goodbye to PageRank (PR) and hello to mozRank (mR).
As an ex ‘blogger’ on Google I am pleased to say farewell to Google’s Pagerank (PR). Google seems to have fallen out of love with its own page ranking score system, but having let it loose via their toolbar and with enterprising webmasters, bloggers and marketers doing everything possible to achieve a high PR score, it seems PR has become less and less important to the people that matter, especially as apparently Google has made it more and more difficult to retrieve the score from their servers.
Having recently migrated to WordPress with a new domain name “Italian Reflections”, I was initially concerned at losing my Google PR of 4. On migration the somewhat obvious happened, the PR dropped to zero and as yet has not come back, despite all assurances to the contrarythat it would from outside sources!
Fortunately there is a new ranking tool. Rand Fishkin, and his team at SEOmoz, have resolved this page ranking problem and more importantly come up with an improvement on it. Without wishing to get too complicated, as I don’t pretend to be an expert in this field, SEOmoz use the data from their link popularity checker and backlink analysis tool, named Open Site Explorer (OSE) and have developed new metrics for measuring link popularity, authority, and trust which are all updated regularly unlike the “old” Google pagerank score.
So, I am pleased to say to the Sponsors and Partners of Italian Reflections and anyone else who is interested, that today’s mozRank for www.italianreflections.com is 4.51 and that I really don’t care if my old Google PR is still a big fat zero. Things have moved on…
