Verona Daily Photo

Our guest photographer this month is Valeria Palombo. I met Valeria recently when I came across the Verona Daily Photo. Since then, we have become friends and I now regularly visit her photoblog, which is aimed at capturing the sights of Romeo and Juilet’s City through the eyes of a someone who lives there.
Valeria says: Creating the Verona Daily Photo blog , one year ago, seemed just like the perfect step for me, as I kept taking and storing hundreds of photographs.

Today I share them with many people, some of whom have become regular followers and friends. Photography has helped me to know the city of Verona better (I come from Tuscany) and to look below the surface, discovering locations, spotting details as well as looking at its most popular places with a creative glance.
I hope that visitors to my photoblog will get an impression about Verona and its lifestyle, so Italian but still, so Veronese!

The Questions and Answers!

1. When did you start getting interested in photography?

As far as I remember I have always been intrigued by the camera. I was given a Polaroid when I was 11. Later I used a little compact, mostly to photograph trips, outings, travel with friends etc. Gradually I started always taking the camera with me, however digital cameras and computers have played the biggest part in developing my interest.

Having the possibility to take hundreds of photos with no need to develop the images just pushed my passion further ahead. Since I started doing the ‘Verona Daily Photo’ my interest in photography has blossomed. I like to study the work of professional photographers, trying to “understand”, but I also enjoy exploring the photographic world of amateurs, who, like me, try to do their best every day.

2. What in your opinion are the ingredients of a good photograph?

Technique and experience in the use of light help to create a good photo, but what makes the difference is the ability to “see” the scene and the details that will make a good composition.

3. What is your favourite photograph that you’ve shot to date
I don’t know! I really love some photos I took of my daughter, she is definitely the number one subject of my photography. But if I had to choose one from my blog I’d pick the one I took one evening outside the Arena, titled “Elegance at the Opera”. In general I tend to prefer those that include people, either portraits or casual street photography.

4. What do you hope to convey to others via your photography?

Inner character, a different point of view of a place or of a person. Beauty, contrasts, utter reality, motion and stillness. I hope that the readers of my blog can “feel” Verona through my images.

5. Do you look at the World wondering how it would look as a photograph?
All the time!  It’s a continuous injection of inspiration. I keep looking at anything around me and imagine it as a photograph. It’s funny, it didn’t happen before, but lately I feel I see in a constant photo-mode.
